Surface transitions of the semi-infinite Potts model II: the low bulk temperature regime

We consider the semi-infinite q–state Potts model. We prove, for large q, the existence of a first order surface phase transition between the ordered phase and the the so-called “new low temperature phase” predicted in [27], in which the bulk is ordered whereas the surface is disordered.

FUB-HEP 5/92, February 1992 CROSSOVER FINITE-SIZE SCALING AT FIRST ORDER TRANSITIONS

In a recent paper we developed a method which allows to rigorously control the finitesize behavior in long cylinders near first-order phase transitions at low temperature. Here we apply this method to asymmetric transitions with two competing phases, and to the q-state Potts model as a typical model of a temperature driven transition, where q low temperature phases compete with one high tempera...

Analytical Solution of The Laminar Boundary Layer Flow over Semi-Infinite Flat Plate: Variable Surface Temperature

In this paper, the problem of forced convection over a horizontal flat plate under condition of variable plate temperature is presented and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is employed to compute an approximation to the solution of the system of nonlinear differential equations governing the problem. This paper provides good supplements to the existing literature and generalizes the previ...

Surface ferro (or antiferro) magnetism in bulk antiferro (or ferro) magnets : renormalization group analysis

2014 The renormalization group techniques are applied, for the first time, to surface magnetism in bulk magnets, for all signs of surface and bulk coupling constants. The q-state Potts model is specifically focused upon, and an interesting q-evolution of the phase diagram is exhibited. In particular the Ising model (q = 2) presents a remarkable feature in the case of competing bulk-and surface ...

We consider the anti-ferromagnetic Potts model on the the integer lattice Z. The model has two parameters, q, the number of spins, and λ = exp(−β), where β is “inverse temperature”. It is known that the model has strong spatial mixing if q > 7, or if q = 7 and λ = 0 or λ > 1/8, or if q = 6 and λ = 0 or λ > 1/4. The λ = 0 case corresponds to the model in which configurations are proper q-colouri...
